This is a collection of online Science resources for young children. By young children I mean generally K-6 but younger children can appreciate many of the sites listed here as well. These websites have been selected for their educational content, i.e. what the child can learn about Science by accessing these websites. In this way, children will not only see the Internet as an educational tool, but get hands-on experience using this tool to pursue their own scientific interests. The information and activities found in these websites motivate children and stimulate their natural interest in Science. In many cases the sites provide links to other websites of similar focus for further exploration.
Although there are many websites made for adults that children could also benefit from, I have chosen only websites made specifically for children. These websites use many graphics to help kids understand the concepts being explained, use characters and bright colors to get kids' attention, and use very friendly language that is geared to speak to kids on their own level without talking down to them. In addition navigation is easy and advertising is not overwhelming. There is some advertising on some websites and I have indicated this in my descriptions below.
This list is not exhaustive so please feel free to contact me to suggest new sites to be added to this list. In the following pages you will find sections on Animals, Space, and General Science. Directories lists directories for children and pages containing just links, especially for science in some cases.
